Washington halts weapons to Israel
Washington May 09, 2024 (QJ) -The United States government has recently blocked a shipment of weapons destined for Israel, citing concerns over Washington’s role in Israel’s plans to take control of the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
The United States has consistently stated that it does not support Israel’s attacks and has refused to support Israel in taking Rafah, a city currently inhabited by millions of Palestinians and formerly attacked by Israel, causing the deaths of more than 34,000 civilians.
The shipment consists of approximately 1,800-2,000 pounds of bombs, including precision-guided munitions weighing between 907 kg and 1,700-500 pounds.
Officials from President Biden’s administration have repeatedly emphasized that they do not support the bombing of Rafah and have urged Israel to consider a ceasefire agreement that respects the rights of civilians.
The United States remains Israel’s largest supplier of weapons to date. It has strongly condemned the recent escalation following the October 7th attacks between Israel and Hamas.
