WADDANI Opposition Party Condemns Use of Force against Peaceful Demonstrators

Hargeisa May 14, 2013 (SDN) – Somaliland’s WADDANI opposition party has condemned the use of force against peaceful demonstrators in Buroa, Togdher region which left one person dead. The party’s chief spokesperson, Ibrahim Mahdi Buba who held a press conference today said that otherwise government would not have resorted to use of force on peaceful demonstrators in Buroa. He also accused the interior minister and president Silanyo’s administration the recurrent police killings of civilians in the country. The Violence erupted yesterday when most-feared anti- demonstrations police squad known as RRU (Rapid Reaction Unit) attempted to quell peacefull demonstrators outside Buroa local municipality killing at least one person and injuring another. The administration of President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud “Silaanyo” has been quick to use lethal force in dealing with demonstration and this is not a first time that civilian casualties have occurred as a result of this heavy handed response.
