US government says Israel probably violated international humanitarian law

Washington May 11, 2024 (QJ) -The US government officially announced on Friday that the weapons it donated to Israel and used in the war in Gaza probably violated international humanitarian law.

However, the Biden administration wasn’t able to link specific U.S. weapons to individual strikes by Israeli forces in Gaza.

The report indicates evidence showing that Israel, being the closest ally of the United States, has violated the laws aimed at protecting civilians, becoming the strongest statement Washington has made to Tel Aviv since the beginning of the Israeli offensive on Gaza following Hamas’ attack on October 7.

The findings of this report pose a significant threat to the strained relationship between Israel and the Biden administration. President Biden’s administration has taken steps that are not favorable to Israel, especially after Israeli forces entered Rafah last week.

Israel has not yet responded to the report released by the US government, but some Republican lawmakers have criticized the report and described it as being critical of Israel.
