US announces criminal charges against Hamas leaders

Washington September 04, 2024(QJ)-The U.S. Department of Justice has announced criminal charges against Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other officials, accusing them of being behind the October 7th attack by Hamas on northern Israel.

A federal court has charged Hamas leaders with seven criminal offenses, including conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, leading to death, conspiracy to kill U.S. citizens, and conspiracy to finance terrorism.

The indictment also accuses Iran and the Lebanese group Hezbollah of providing financial and military support, including missiles and other military supplies, to Hamas, which were used in the attack on northern Israel.

Yahya Sinwar is currently in hiding in an underground bunker in Gaza. The Israeli government has previously placed a bounty on his head.

The U.S. Department of Justice also mentioned that three of the accused are believed to be deceased.
