UNRWA firs 12 staff member for involvement in October attack
Gaza January 27, 2024 (QJ) -At least 12 United Nations Relief and Works Agency employees in Gaza have been fired following accusations by the Israeli authorities that they were involved in attacks on October 7.
The United States has stated that they have taken measures to halt the financial support they had been providing to UNRWA, citing concerns and investigations into the allegations. The Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, released a statement indicating that the accused employees have undergone a thorough investigation.
The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has called on countries that suspended their support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to “urgently reconsider” their decisions. The United States, Canada, Australia, and Italy have each announced the suspension of financial aid to UNRWA after Israel accused some of its employees of being involved in attacks that occurred on October 7.
