-A United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) patrol vehicle has been hit by artillery fire in southern Lebanon, according to a statement by the UN peacekeeping force. The incident occurred around 12:00 pm local time in the area of Aytaroun in southern Lebanon.
UNIFIL stated that the patrol came under fire, leading to damages to the vehicle. The incident has prompted UNIFIL to strongly condemn the attack and underscored the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The peacekeeping force highlighted the need to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could escalate tensions. UNIFIL’s mandate is to help ensure the cessation of hostilities and to assist the Lebanese government in maintaining peace and security.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly following the Israeli forces shelling and entering the Gaza Strip after the deadly Hamas attack in Israel on October 7th.
