UN: approximately 40% of the population of Gaza displaced
Gaza May 21, 2024 (QJ) -More than 900,000 people, approximately 40% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced in the past two weeks as Israeli airstrikes continue across most of the region, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said yesterday.
There are Israeli airstrikes and ground assaults, particularly in the eastern parts of Rafah and Jabalia, he added.
He stated that 812,000 of the displaced Palestinians are from Rafah and more than 100,000 are from northern Gaza.
The UN spokesperson also mentioned that the massive displacement has resulted in deplorable living conditions, with widespread homelessness, a lack of shelter, and minimal supplies for distribution.
The displaced individuals are seeking refuge in open spaces, damaged buildings, and farmland in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah.
