UCID Party Condemns Somalia President for Foul-mouthing Somaliland

Hargeisa, May 21, 2013 (SDN) – Somaliland’s Justice and Welfare opposition party UCID has strongly condemned “irresponsible and misleading” political rhetoric against Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud over his remarks on Somaliland independence during the opening ceremony of a new center for orphans in Mogadishu which coincided with celebrations in Somaliland and elsewhere in the world commemorating 22 years of self-rule on 18th may 2013. “The party strongly condemns the verbal attacks and hate speech from the Mogadishu based administration which is detrimental to further relations between the two neighboring and former united countries that are currently engaged in talks sanctioned by the international community” the opposition Justice and Welfare party (UCID) said in a press release today. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud’s comments created an outrage among Somaliland Government and people. On last Saturday Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud said during the opening ceremony of a new center for orphans in Mogadishu that Somaliland people must swallow their ambition for independent nationhood and Somalia unity is a must. Meanwhile, the president’s remarks and inflammatory language could jeopardize the continuation of talks between Somaliland and Somalia since it’s a direct violation of Ankara Communique which states that the two parties (Somaliland & Somalia) should commit to refrain from using any inflammatory language and any other act which may put the continuation of the dialogue at risk.
