The United Nations has suspends food distribution in Rafah

Gaza May 24, 2024 (QJ) -The United Nations has suspended food distribution in the city of Rafah, located in the southern part of Gaza, due to severe supply shortages and increasing security concerns.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric announced on Tuesday that the food distribution centers run by UN agencies WFP (World Food Programme) and UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) have become inaccessible due to ongoing military operations in Rafah.

The UN reports that over one million people are now facing severe hunger. The Rafah border crossing, once a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid into Gaza, has been closed since May 6.

Additionally, no vehicles have departed from the temporary port constructed by the United States for two days, according to the UN.

A WFP spokesperson warned that humanitarian operations in Gaza are on the brink of collapse, emphasizing that the hunger crisis will worsen without the resumption of food and other essential supplies.
