The ICC issues Arrest Warrant for Israeli and Hamas Leaders
Hague May 20, 2024 (QJ) -The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has requested the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The court has also called for the arrest of senior leaders of Hamas, including Ismail Haniya, the head of the political bureau, Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in Gaza, and Mohammad Deif, the commander of the armed wing of Hamas.
ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan has classified the Hamas attack on October 7 as a war crime.
Following the announcement, Israeli media began describing the decision as an international embarrassment for Netanyahu, who had been actively trying to prevent the ICC from issuing such an arrest warrant.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) as “political outrage.”
Hamas has also denounced the request by the International Criminal Court for arrest warrants of three of its leaders over the October 7 attacks into southern Israel.
