The Family of Journalist Abdirizak Syria Requests for His Release

Journalist Syria is in police custody for two days now. His father requested the security forces to release him from a prison within Villa Somalia where he is being held. Syria’s father told Dalsan Radio that he doesn’t know why his son was arrested. He explained that his son is an innocent university student. He respectfully requested from the government to release his son.

The Somali Security Forces picked freelance journalist Abdirizak Omar Ahmed aka Syria from his house and arrested him two days ago. His wife Maryama Araale told Dalsan about the incident. She however said she wasn’t aware of any crime he committed which could lead to his arrest.

She also requested for his release. Journalist Syria is currently a SIMAD University student.In 2006, Journalist Syria worked for the state broadcasting station, Radio Mogadishu. He also worked for IQK Radio which was also in Mogadishu. Currently he freelances for other local media outlets including Xogmaal news site.
