Suspected military attack Somalia’s ministry of defense

Mogadishu March 18, 2023 (QJ) –  A group believed to be members of Al-Shabaab carried out a deadly attack on the Ministry of Defense complex in the Wardhiigley district of Mogadishu.

The attack began with bombings and gunfire, causing significant damage to the Ministry of Defense building, especially at the control tower that overlooks the compound.

Following the explosions, there was a fierce gun battle between government forces and the militants, while the Ministry of Defense compound was put under lockdown.

The situation returned to normal, and government forces have heightened security around the Ministry of Defense.

The extent of the damage and casualties on both sides is still unknown, but this attack highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Somalia, particularly in the capital Mogadishu, where such incidents have become more frequent in recent months.
