Suicide Bomb Plot Foiled in Southern Somalia

Mogadishu (SDN) The transitional federal government of Somalia’s police force has captured several men they believe were planning a bombing in the area which is currently under the control of the TFG.

Two men were arrested scouting out the site of a planned meeting for traditional elders in the region. It is believed the two were planning to target the meeting as suicide bombers.

“The suspects intended to conduct activities contrary to the peace in Gedo region, specifically in the city of Luuq, they were planning a suicide bombing mission, we are currently conducting an investigation into the incident” said one of the government officers in Gedo region.

Al-Shabaab is suspected of being behind the plot although they have yet to comment. Gedo is a transitional federal government stronghold and forces there often undertake counter-insurgency operations in this region of southern Somalia.
