South Africa demands immediate stop to Israel’s attack on Rafah
Hague May 17, 2024 (QJ) -South Africa has once again called on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to halt the massacre in Gaza, urging the court to order an immediate stop to Israel’s attack on Rafah.
“South Africa hoped, the last time we appeared before this court, that the brutal attack would be halted to protect Palestine and its people. Instead, Israel’s massacre has continued unabated and has now reached a new, horrifying level,” said South Africa’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Vusimuzi Madonsela, while addressing the ICJ.
South Africa submitted its request yesterday as two hearings began at the ICJ in The Hague, asking the judges to issue an order for a general ceasefire in Gaza.
Israel is scheduled to respond to South Africa’s arguments today, having previously dismissed South Africa’s case as “baseless.”
