Somaliland’s Foreign Minister Announces the Postponement of the Third Round of Somaliland-Somalia Talks

Hargeisa, Nov 09, 2013 (SDN) -Somaliland’s minister of foreign affairs Mohamed Bihi Yonis has announced the postponement of the latest round of Somaliland-Somalia talks which were due to begin yesterday the 8th of November 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Minister Bihi while speaking to local media said that Turkey- mediated stalled talks between Somaliland and Somalia were postponed after the federal government of Somalia requested through the Turkish intermediaries the postponement of the Dialogue talks due to urgent matters regarding the fragile situation in Jubaland.

The foreign minister went on to say that the talks will resume on a later date probably in the first week of December 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Talks between Somalia and Somaliland began in April, and Turkey serves as both host and mediator for the talks, which will touch on political and economic matters.

This postponed round of talks was the third round of peace talks hosted by Turkey.
