Somaliland says Puntland planning to attack

Hargeisa March 03, 2023 (QJ) – The Ministry of Defense of Somaliland has stated that they have received information that units of Puntland’s forces are set to launch attacks on their army in the districts and towns of Sool region.

In a statement released the Ministry said “The Government of Somaliland, particularly the Ministry of Defense, has decided to notify the international community, regional governments, and the United Nations that the armed forces of Puntland State of Somalia (PSS) and Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) plan to launch an attack against Somaliland troops in the coming days.”

Somaliland also stated that they are taking all necessary precautions to protect their citizens and territory from any threats posed by Puntland’s armed forces.

In a separate press release, Puntland has denied allegations that its forces are attacking Somaliland military positions in Laascaanood, and stated that it is committed to peace and stability in the region.

“The conflict is between the local people who are defending their lives and properties from the aggressors, and Somaliland, who wants to use force to control the area.” the Puntland statement read.
