Somaliland: Renewed Clan Violence Erupts in Sarar Region
Qararo, Oct 10, 2013 (SDN)- At least one person was killed and police officer was wounded in Saraar region in a surge of renewed clan violence, Qurbejoog reports. The fighting erupted in Qararo village, near Wadamago’o between two fraternal clans in Somaliland’s Sarar region. In Wednesday claims over pastureland ownership degenerated into the killing of a man near water borehole in Qararo Village. Following the killing, there are fears of armed confrontations between the two fraternal clans as the wounded police officer was taken to Buroa town of Togdheer region for medical treatment. Somaliland government has deployed armed forces to defuse the tensions.
Meanwhile Somaliland’s minister of interior Ali Mohamed Waranade accompanied by Togdher governor and traditional leaders have reached Qararo village in order to defuse the tensions between the two clans.
Previously in August 2013 two fraternal clans in Oog district have fought over pasture and water resulting the death of six persons from both sides. Elders and local leaders in Oog District have resolved to end the clan fighting that has claimed scores of lives.
