Somaliland presidential pardon to release 491 prisoners

Hargeisa, June 12 2013 (SDN) — As many as 491 Somaliland prisoners will be released under the general amnesty granted by the president, prisons department director Abdirahman Ahmed Mohamoud reveals Wednesday while speaking to the press in Hargeisa. ” we are excuting a presidential pardon for releasing 491 prisoners from 13 different Somaliland prisons.” said Abdirahman Ahmed Mohamoud director of prisons. On Tuesday night, President Silanyo issued a general pardon releasing 491 prisoners from 13 different prisons. The amnesty covers lesser offenses such as theft, forgery and other white-collar crimes. It does not, however, death penalty prisoners.
