Somaliland Parliamentary speaker makes a self-serving request to the public, again

Burao (SDN)-Somaliland parliamentary speaker as well as the chairman of Wadani party Abdirahman Ciro asked the people of Somaliland to assemble in order to defend the Somaliland Parliament from the government.

The Chairman is currently campaigning in Buao ahead of the official campaign period while the Somaliland Parliament is mired in partisan squabble between the parties.

Somaliland parties and the Government were unable to come to compromise in drafting a voter’s legislation.

The Ruling party accused the speaker in forging a presidential draft of the proposed law before submitting it to the Upper House the Gurti.

“The Somaliland Government is planning to disrupt the proceedings of the house and should be ready to defend it” said Mr. Ciro.

It is not the first time, the Gurti had to intervene in February of this year when the speaker single handedly degraded his deputies.

Word has it that the ruling party parliamentarians are planning to overthrow the speaker on their next scheduled meeting on Saturday.

Somaliland Government already controls the upper house, the Gurti and has enough support to unseat the speaker of the house of Representative.

Mr. Ciro is also the presidential candidate of the Wadani party and for a long time was an ally of President Ahmed Silanyo who is poised to run for a second term.

The vice chair of UCID Party Ali Gurey recently accused Mr. Ciro of being in bed with the ruling party by avoiding hashing out a solution to the voter’s legislation quackmire  by campaigning in Burao.

Somaliland experts seem to either lay the blame on the speaker or the ruling party in the possible delay of the presidential and the parliamentary elections next year.
