Somaliland: House and Deputy Speakers Strike Peace Deal

Hargeisa, 30 Dec 2013 (SDN) -It was just last week that Deputy and Vice Deputy Speaker of Representatives, Bashe Mohamed Farah and Ali Yusuf Ahmed, respectively, placed a complaint to Hargeisa’s High Court against House Speaker, Abdirahman Irro.

The compliant is about a committee reshuffle whereby the House Speaker implemented wide-spread changes without previous consultation with the Deputy and Vice Deputy Speakers.
However, it appears that a peace deal was brokered. The House Speaker, after opening the last parliamentary session, passed the floor over to his Deputies. It is believed that a closed-door meeting took place, or a series of meetings, whereby all three individuals agreed on ending the feud.
Deputy Speaker, Bashe Mohamed Farah is also expected to contact the High Court and retract the previous complaint. Both, Bashe and House Speaker Irro are to hold a joint-press conference sometime soon.
