Somaliland: Government Bans the Use of old Somali Shilling in Sanag region-(Watch)

Hargeisa, Sep 30, 2013 (SDN) -Somaliland’s minister of interior Ali Mohamed Waran’ade has announced on Sunday that the use of old Somali currency dubbed as Gimbar as a legal tender is prohibited in Sanag region. The minister also declared that the dusk to dawn curfew imposed in Erigavo, the capital of Sanag region ten days ago by Governor Ahmed Mahmud Gelle ‘Da’ar’ will continue without mentioning the time to be lifted. The minister made those announcements during a press conference he held today in his office.

The curfew was imposed following violent demonstrations in Erigavo against the government efforts to change the use of the Gimbar Somali shilling in Sanag region.
