Somaliland: Elders Resolve to End Clan Fighting in Sanaag Region.
Oog, Aug 26, 2013 (SDN)- Elders and local leaders in Oog District in Sanaag region has resolved to end the recent clan fighting that has claimed scores of lives. The two clans living in Oog district in Snaag region have fougth over pasture and water and in the latest confrontation between the two groups last week, six persons from both sides were killed. Speaking at a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on security and government minsters the clans led by Ismail Salah Ali and Awad Barre presented an agreed plan to end bloodshed between the clans.
One hundrend and two elders from both sides took the oath in order to end the fighting between the two clans.
The elders of both sides assured that there would be no more killings.
In last week At least six people were killed and eleven others were wounded when a fighting erupted between two fraternal clans in Somaliland’s Oog district.
The militiamen which belong to the two clans began to fight last Wednesday, after claims over pastureland ownership degenerated into the killing of a man near water borehole situating some 8 KMs north of Oog.
Following the killing, armed confrontations lasted for two days and the wounded persons were taken to nearby Buroa town of Togdheer region for medical treatment.
After the fighting Somaliland government deployed armed forces to defuse the tensions.
