Somaliland: Ambassador Nicholas Kay Arrives in Hargeisa

Hargeisa, June 13 2013 (SDN) —Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ambassador Nicholas Kay, arrived in Hargeisa, Somaliland on today. The ambassador and his delegation were warmly greeted at Egal International Airport by Foreign Minister, Dr. Mohamed Abdullahi Omar. Amb. Kay told reporters in the VIP room that he is very happy to his visit Somaliland and the tangible development Somaliland achieved in its 22 years of self-rule. Somaliland’s foreign minister Dr. Mohamed Abdullahi Omar also told reporters that Ambassador Kay will hold talks with senior government members, lawmakers, aid agencies operating in the country and NGOs.  Somaliland declared the restoration of its independence in 1991 after a union with neighboring Somalia failed after a bloody civil war that killed more than 50,000 Somalilanders. For the last twenty two years, it has been improving its security, democratic institutions and stability despite not receiving international recognition.
