Somalia: court fines 36 Iranian and Pakistanis for illegal fishing
Mogadishu June 06, 2023 (SD) – The Banadir Regional Court today sentenced 36 foreign nationals who were apprehended in Somali waters for engaging in illegal fishing activities.
The Chairman of the Banadir Regional Court, Salah Ali Mahamoud, read the verdict against the foreign individuals who were convicted of fishing without permission in Somali waters for an extended period of time.
The defendants, originating from Yemen and Iran, were fined a total of $11,000 dollars for their illegal activities, with each individual being required to pay $30,000 dollars as a penalty for the damages caused to Somalia.
The court also ordered the confiscation of their vessels and fishing equipment used in the illegal activities.
