Puntland seeks dialogue with Feds over constitutional reform
Garowe January 12, 2024 (QJ) -The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, his deputy, the Speaker of the Parliament, and other politicians held a consultative meeting in Garowe today.
The meeting discussed the ongoing security and political situation in Somalia, particularly in Puntland. The participants issued a joint press release containing two main points.
The leaders urged the people of Puntland to strive for unity and collaborate for national development, peace, and effective governance within the Puntland Regional Government.
Furthermore, Puntland leaders called on the Federal Government of Somalia to take meaningful measures, particularly addressing constitutional matters through dialogue.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in recent times, has taken numerous significant steps, engaging with the opposition and societal segments, aiming for a comprehensive review of the country’s constitution. This initiative faces significant challenges, with disagreements on certain constitutional provisions.
