Proposed Disarmament in Puntland
Garoowe (SDN)-The head of Puntland’s parliament Abdirashiid Mahamed Hirsi spoke to journalists today in the City of Garoowe where he discussed disarmament. He asked residents of Puntland to voluntarily disarm once the constitution is ratified.
Hirsi assured Puntlanders that in a democracy everyone is guaranteed the right to express themselves and citizens can rely on the government to safeguard those rights. He reiterated that the public must hand over their weapons to the authorities who are responsible for protecting the public.
According to Chairman Hirsi Puntland’s new constitution is a victory for the government and is expected to herald in an era of development for the region.
If the constitution is successfully ratified the public will be expected to follow the lead of the administration however whether or not they will comply with the planned disarmament remains in question.
