Pres. Laftagareen: South West State is ready to take on Al Shabaab

Baidoa October 07, 2023 (QJ)  -The President of South West State, Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, today chaired a meeting discussing the second phase of the fight against the Al-Shabaab group, which is set to begin in the region.

The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Special Forces, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, heads of the Military Courts, and various regional military leaders responsible for security in South West State.

President Laftagareen stated in the meeting that they are fully prepared to confront Al-Shabaab and to secure the areas in South West State were the group is currently occupying.

“The time has come for a decisive confrontation with Al-Shabaab. Starting today, there will be a new military campaign against them, and we will not allow them to threaten the peace and stability that Hirshabelle and Galmudug have achieved,” President Laftagareen said.

He also emphasized the need for unity in the fight against Al-Shabaab and for the people and the government to support the efforts to eliminate the threat posed by the group.

President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen further commended the military officers and leaders who participated in the meeting for their dedication to the upcoming operations aimed at countering Al-Shabaab and restoring peace and security in South West State.
