PM Abdiweli Chaired Media Assembly: “We must work together diligently, in good faith, towards establishing a Somalia that our people in abroad can return to”
His Excellency Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed chaired an assembly with representatives of the Somali media last night alongside Deputy Prime Minister Ridwan Hersi Mohamed and the Minister of Information Mustaf Sh. Ali Dhuhulow. H.E Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed commanded the efforts of the media and discussed the future of Somalia led by various members within the nation. The most important topic discussed last night was the protection of Journalists, ethical journalism and the Federal Government of Somalia jointly working with the media.
H.E Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed also emphasized the unity of Somali’s; their shared culture, religion and language. In addition, the importance of the media whom H.E Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed referred to as the writers of Somalia and the voice of the voiceless; the power of the media is unfathomable and it is a great responsibility. The need to work hand in hand towards stabilizing and rebuilding Somalia is the duty of every Somali, the conscious efforts to implement ethical principles in regards to information spreading.
H.E Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed said, “I am elated to be amongst my kin; my brothers and sisters. You are all important to stabilization and development of Somalia and are also responsible for upholding principles and upstanding morals. You speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and are gathered here today in the hopes of pushing Somalia forward.
You are the future; the leaders, doctors, teachers and artists of Somalia. We must work together diligently, in good faith, towards establishing a Somalia that our people in abroad can return to.”
Furthermore, H.E Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed vowed to support the needs of the media and acknowledged their sacrifices pursuing this career path in Somalia. H.E Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed and the Minister of Information both stated that they will support journalists and protect them from future unjust actions.
