Opposition in Puntland accuse President fueling conflict
Garowe October 19, 2023 (QJ) – Opposition Politicians from Puntland have accused President Deni of preparing for a conflict in the city of Garowe, in order to suppress anyone who opposes his political agenda.
A press release issued after a meeting of Puntland’s opposition umbrella alleged that President Deni has been fueling a local conflict similar to the one that occurred in Garowe in last June, resulting in the deaths of over 30 people.
The opposition accused President Deni of misusing government funds to intimidate the opposition and is concerned that the PMPF forces, backed by the UAE, will be used to suppress the opposition.
President Deni, who has two months left of his term, is insistent on conducting one-person one-vote for parliamentary and presidential elections.
Political parties in support of President Deni are currently convening in Garowe, and they are expected to share their stance on the contentious election dispute in Puntland.
