Nigeria Restores Diplomatic Relations with Somalia
Mogadishu, 30 Nov 2013 (SDN) -Nigeria government restored diplomatic relations with Somalia, after its ambassador to Mogadishu arrived in the capital on Saturday, presenting his accreditation to the President of Somali on Saturday.
Akin Oyateru, the new Nigeria Ambassador to Somalia, met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, pledging his country’s commitment to support the ongoing efforts to stabilize the horn of Africa country.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appreciated Nigeria’s contribution to African Union Police in Somalia.
Nearly 200 police officers from Nigeria serve under African Union’s Mission in Somalia.
“Somalia is a country with a prolonged period of conflict that has devastated the institutions we are now rebuilding. Nigeria is a highly valued partner and friend of long standing. We are deeply grateful for Nigeria’s support to AMISOM and the broader efforts to bring peace to our country.” President Hassan said.
The Ambassador presented the President Hassan with a letter from the President of Nigeria Jonathan Goodluck to make an official state visit to Nigeria in early next year.
