Lasanod Mayor and MPs say SL shelling civilians

Feb 07, 2023 (QJ) – The mayor and 8 local MPs of Laascaanood, the capital of the Sool region in Somaliland, have declared that they stand with their people and that the city has been taken over by Somaliland.

The mayor and local council members have reported that the Somaliland forces are indiscriminately attacking the city, including hospitals, mosques, power companies, and water supplies.

They have stated that the conflict in Laascaanood is between forces from Somaliland and local residents.

The mayor of Laascaanood and MPs declared their support for the people and called on President Muse Biixi to withdraw his troops from the SSC region.

The conflict in Laascaanood has escalated, with some military and government officials aligned with the Somaliland government defecting in recent days.
