Israeli forces withdraws from Khan Yunis ahead of Ceasefire talks
Gaza April 07, 2024 (QJ) -The Israeli military said on Sunday it was withdrawing its forces from the southern city of Khan Younis.
They are now on the border between Gaza and Israel. The withdrawal, which comes on the six-month anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks, is expected to affect ceasefire talks scheduled to take place in Cairo, in which Israeli and Hamas delegations will participate.
The withdrawal of Khan Younis forces does not reduce the number of Israeli forces remaining in Gaza. There are still large numbers of troops operating in the northern part of the area. A White House official said the withdrawal is just for the troops to rest and reorganize, “and not affect future operations.”
Israeli media said the rest of the forces would be on the road known as the Netzarim Corridor, which divides the Gaza Strip into two parts.
