Israel confirms Yahya Sinwar’s Death

Gaza October  17, 2024(QJ) -Israel has announced that its forces killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza. The Israeli military stated that Sinwar was killed on Wednesday in southern Gaza.

Hamas has not commented on Israel’s claim. Israel has been conducting military operations in Gaza since October of last year, resulting in the deaths of over 42,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians. This followed attacks led by Hamas in southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,139 individuals.

Israeli forces and police have conducted DNA testing to confirm Sinwar’s identity after claiming that their troops in Gaza killed three individuals.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly announced Sinwar’s death but added that this does not mean the conflict in Gaza has ended.

Nearly 250 individuals were taken hostage by Israel during the attacks on October 7, 2023. Approximately half have been released, while about 70 are believed to still be held in Gaza.
