Hargeisa water crisis. Water is essential for all dimensions and life is impossible without water
Water scarcity is the lack of sufficient available water resources to meet the demands of water usage in many places in Somali-land. It already affects over 50 % of Hargeisa population. Apart the local crisis at home, the same also created stress for overseas Diasporas since their relatives at home are short of drinking water over decades. There is no life without drinking water supply, as this is a gate way of human existence.
Somali-land reclaimed its independence over 22 years ago; however, after these long years, it is regrettable that, the people living in Somali-land capital cannot excess drinking water. The blame fall entirely to the two former administrations of Somali-land that did not even feel the water crisis in Hargeisa.
The military coup occurred Somalia in 1969, however, the former regime of Siyad Barre managed made available the existing Hargeisa water supply within few years in office and this indicates that many of the Somali officials served with Siyad Barre regime were more nationalist than many of the former officials of the two previous governments. The government has scored dozens of achievements three years in office, but Hargeisa water agency is rotating from same axis over years and any improvement is not yet at sight as the same is moving from bad to worse.
it is true that certain percentage of the population from same city enjoys plenty of drinking water at their homes without looking water tankers whereas, more than 50 % of Hargeisa population are daily busy looking for water tankers to cover their water requirements and this indicates signs of two tales of a same city. old women, young girls and young boys are daily water tankers in the streets, which led many times human causality. in reality this shows regrettable situations, which effected our feelings.
As I said before, the blameworthiness squarely falls under the responsibility of the Somali-land former administration. There is nothing painful than neglecting your people who are suffering water shortage over decades. in conclusion urgent solution is required to put into end this prolonged crisis, which result many occasions human loss. The manner in which the interior minster (Ali Waran cade) handled the late Hargeisa water tankers crisis have won appreciation from the public both at home and overseas. .
