Greed for drug cash drove machine gun trio to murder former pal in Edinburgh street shooting horror
THREE machine gun killers who brought terror to an Edinburgh street came to Scotland as they thought they could make more money from their drug empire.
Mohamud Mohamud, 30, Cadil Huseen, 23, and Hussein Ali, 26, were part of a gang whose feud with rivals spilled over into bloody voilence.
On Thursday, they admitted killing Mohammed Abdi in Duddingston on May 26 last year.
Four co-accused went free after their not guilty pleas were accepted.
Yesterday, prosecutor Iain McSporran said: “The Crown’s position is Huseen and Ali were engaged in drug dealing and Mohamud was known to the group.
“There appears to have been an organised crime group consisting largely of Somalis with London connections, operating in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“That Mohammed Abdi was also engaged in such activities seems beyond doubt.”
The High Court in Glasgow heard a falling out between Abdi and others including Huseen led to rival factions developing shortly before the murder.
On May 24, Jade Davren, who was friends with Huseen and Ali, sent a message to Abdi’s friend El-Helali saying “the guns are coming out”.
On May 26, the two groups clashed in Edinburgh after a VW Sharan being chased by Abdi and others crashed.
Abdi was shot from inside the VW as he smashed the back of the car with a baseball bat.
The court heard that five shots were discharged from the machine gun before it jammed. Three of them hit Abdi – the fatal shot was through the chest. Mohamud was caught at the scene by police, while Huseen hid in a shed and then fled to London where he was arrested in June.
Ali fled to Kenya but agreed to return to the UK after extradition proceedings began. All three
are expected to receive life sentences.
