Government Officals Make Third Court Appearance in Hargeisa Corruption Case
Hargeisa SDN- 3 former officials with Somaliland’s previous government administration who stand accused of diverting food aid appeared before the regional court of Hargeisa for the third time on April 25th 2012.
The District Commissioner of Hargeisa Ahmed Omar Abdullahi (Xamarje), the director of the Ministry of Resettlement Ahmed Ilmi Barre and the Advisor to the Vice President Osman Si’id Jama’a and two others appeared before the court to defend themselves against the charges.
The three accused were arrested on March 10th 2012. Thirteen others who stand accused remain at large are still wanted by the government for allegedly diverting food aid donated by the government of Oman.
The city’s police force increased security around the courthouse where the trial is underway. Roads leading to Hargeisa’s municipal courthouse which also houses the regional court have been blocked off during court proceedings amid high security.
