Gaza War is likely to continue until the end of the year

Gaza May 29, 2024 (QJ)-Israel’s National Security Advisor has stated that the ongoing conflict in Gaza is likely to continue until the end of the year.

In an interview with Israel’s public broadcaster Kan on Wednesday, Tzachi Hanegbi said, “We are anticipating another seven months of fighting” to dismantle the military capabilities and governance of Hamas and the smaller Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) group.

His remarks come as Israel finds itself increasingly isolated on the global stage after nearly eight months of continuous assault, with even close allies like the United States expressing concern over civilian casualties.

Hanegbi defended Israel’s operations in Rafah, located on the Gaza-Egypt border, stating that the border has been a “contraband kingdom” since 2007 when Hamas took control of Gaza.

Later on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Israeli military announced that their forces had gained “operational control” of the narrow Philadelphi Corridor, a demilitarized zone between Egypt and Gaza established as part of the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.
