G7 fails to criticize Israeli actions in Gaza
Naples October 19, 2024(QJ) The defense ministers of the G7 countries have reiterated their support for Israel and condemned the attacks by Hamas on October 7, 2023.
They reaffirmed their support for a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, a significant and sustained increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza, and a lasting solution leading to a two-state outcome.
They also expressed concern over events in Lebanon, the security of UN peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon, and the Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
The G7 condemned Iran’s direct attacks on Israel and called on Tehran to refrain from supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and other non-state actors. However, the statement did not mention Israel’s conduct in Gaza, where over 42,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, resulting in widespread destruction and a severe humanitarian crisis.
