Former Minister Gaboose Criticizes Somaliland’s President

Hargeisa (SDN)-The leader of the UMMAD political party Dr. Mahamed Abdi Gaboose took a strong stance against the firing of Abdirahman Abdiqadir, the ruling party’s deputy by the party’s leader and President of Somaliland Ahmed Siilaanyo earlier this week.

Dr. Gaboose stated that he has not witnessed such injustice in his entire political career and is shocked at the actions of President Siilaanyo.

He also said that the President deals poorly with criticism directed at him despite spending seven years in the opposition criticising the governance of former President Riyale. Gaboose also questions the motives behind the arrest of members of Riyale’s administration.

Dr. Gaboose was previously the Interior Affairs minister in the Siilaanyo government before he resigned from the position due to a disagreement with members of the President’s inner circle.

He told HCTV that the manner in which the Abdirahman Abdiqadir situation was dealt with is an affront to Somaliland and is at odds with the rules of decorum.

*Update*

President Siilanyo’s election advisor Mahamed Muuse Abees released a statement at a press conference he held at the Imperial Hotel in the capital city of Hargeisa where he denounced Dr. Gaboose’s statements as politically motivated. He also said that his criticisms would not gain his party any followers or help further his political ambitions.
