Fire destroys parts of Bakara Market in Somalia

Mogadishu March 10, 2024 (QJ) The spokesperson of the Somali Federal Government Police Force, Qassim Ahmed Roble, provided detailed information regarding a fire that engulfed earlier today at the busy Bakara Market in the capital city of Mogadishu.

The spokesperson, speaking to the press, stated that the fire at Bakara Market was caused by a bomb detonated in a garbage dump, resulting in significant damage to buildings, and further spread to commercial areas.
He confirmed that the explosion resulted in the death of one person present at the market. Additionally, he also confirmed that the arson caused extensive property damage, affecting businesses located in the vicinity of Abdalla Shideeya Market.

Incidents of explosions at Bakara Market in Mogadishu have unfortunately occurred frequently, and it is also noteworthy that similar attacks have targeted Xamar-weyne Markets and other Markets.
