Fierce fighting after TFG stronghold comes under attack in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (SDN) Fighting began abruptly  in the city of Mogadishu between Al-Shabaab forces and transitional federal government/AMISOM troops stationed in the city.

TFG and AMISOM troops were attacked at their base in Xerada Asluubta, They returned fire on the attackers leading to an all-out battle between the two groups.

“The fighting was fierce, it began with gunfire and a missile launched somewhere beyond our neighbourhood, all of a sudden a battle broke out, we weren’t expecting this” said a woman who lives in the area of Xerada Asluubta.

There have been reports of injuries on both sides however, no confirmation as yet from the TFG, AMISOM, or Al-Shabaab.

TFG forces have boasted control over Mogadishu saying they have pushed Al-Shabaab out of the area, however attacks on TFG forces within the city have resumed with some regularity. This week, an explosive device was detonated in Mogadishu’s central market targeting troops. Early this morning Villa Somalia, the administrative headquarters of the TFG was also attacked by Al-Shabaab.
