EU Ready to Resume Rafah Border Monitoring Mission Amid Gaza Ceasefire
Brussels (QJ) – The EU is prepared to resume its Rafah border monitoring mission, suspended since 2007, as part of efforts to stabilize Gaza following the recent ceasefire.
The mission’s reactivation depends on Palestinian and Israeli invitations and an agreement from Egypt. The EU initially launched the mission in 2005 but halted it after Hamas gained control of Gaza.
Rafah crossing remains crucial for Palestinian access and humanitarian aid, with ongoing reopening talks.
The monitoring team will consist of about 10 EU personnel. The move reflects EU support for restoring stability and facilitating aid to Gaza.
