Elders to aid Tana River peace talks

Elders from the Somali and Orma communities have met to resolve a conflict over pasture that injured five people in Tana River county last week.

They held a meeting at the Tana River county government headquarters on Friday afternoon and agreed to send a team of elders to resolve the matter amicably.

The meeting was chaired by Wenje assistant county commissioner Fred Mwangangi, Tana River Special Programmes executive Abdi Bile and Tana River North OCPD Sylvester Githungo.

Ten elders from the Orma community and five from the Somali were appointed to seek ways of ending the conflict that have nearly raised tension of possible clashes between the two pastoralist communities.

The trip will be facilitated by the county government. Mwangangi gave the elders one week to visit Kormojila village, a grazing field in Chifiri location, Galole constituency and search the missing cattle heads stolen during the raid.
