Egypt to support South Africa’s ongoing lawsuit in the International Court of Justice

Cairo May 12, 2024 (QJ) -Egypt has officially announced that it would support South Africa’s ongoing lawsuit in the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza.

In a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry highlighted that these measures were taken to address Israel’s violations against the Palestinian people.

Egypt reiterated its call to Israel to uphold its responsibilities, such as respecting the rule of law and implementing measures outlined by the ICJ, which are necessary to ensure the provision of humanitarian aid and assistance in line with the needs of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

In its statement, Egypt also urged the UN Security Council and international actors to take immediate action to stop the escalating violence in the Gaza Strip and to halt military operations in Rafah. Additionally, Egypt called for ensuring the effective protection of Palestinian civilians.
