Editorial: Hello Mr. President

By: Horn Newspaper

The current parliamentary deadlock seems to taken a new turn with both opposing sides of the aisle digging their heels even much deeper than before after reconciliation talks failed to succeed.

The two group failed to reach a compromise yesterday hence the collapse of the talks aimed to find a solution to the current parliamentary impasse with both sides accusing each other for the breakdown of the talks.

Now that it’s clear finding a solution is far from near and considering the ever rising tempers in parliament one is left to wonder what are the hurdles facing the resolving of the issue and why it has taken such a long time to be resolved?

On the other hand this the first time both sides have come together to discuss and find a solution to a political problem facing the country and most probably the integrity of the parliament not to mention the overall image of the internal politics the country as whole.

Ironically what amuses most citizens is not the failure 7 man dialogue committee to find a solution but the absence of any intervention by either the government or the Presidency and with the support of the house of elders this time ,the two previous administrations used to intervene or deploy alternative solutions when such problems arise they even went to the extent of shelving their own interest’s so as to avoid things getting out of hand or to put it this way the previous governments resorted to or settled for a comprise for the sake of the nation , a stance which earned them more support from the populace.

H.E. President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud “Silanyo” is today holds the mantle of unity in his hands and he is responsible for extinguishing the current upheavals by leading the way in finding a solution to the problem so as to avert creating further division among the people of Somaliland.

Your Excellency Mr. President, the current political upheavals in the country, clearly shows that the nation is on the verge of unprecedented political turmoil; For example the issuance of the recent security alert by the UK government warning its citizens against travelling to Somaliland clearly states the lack of trust considering the political analysis which may have prompted the British to take such measures is the current preoccupation by our government on local political which may lead to the downgrading or relaxing the security prioritizations.

With this new developments, we could expect a new grim picture or landscape emerging from the horn region although not presently but in the future and which can have diverse effects on the Socio-Economic.

The recent political changes in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland and leading to the smooth process of the electing into office President Abdi Weli Mohamed Ali Gaas may affect the current standings of Somaliland if we don’t act urgently.

Whatever the outcome, H.E. President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud “Silanyo” should demonstrated strength by assuming his executive obligation in leading the nation to the truth. Mr. President you should work towards uniting the people, you are expected to restore the credibility of the parliament.

Our Government should focus on national development and look at the current political situation in the horn region with a keen eye and shouldn’t let its guard down when it comes to addressing and safeguarding our shared interests.

Mr. President, under previous Somaliland governments had a long tradition of resorting to creating an acceptable forum for negotiation which will yield wise and popular decision, negotiations and consensus building in all important national issues .It’s a high time for the current government to act in time failure to do so then we may as well may need to awaken ourselves from the nightmare before it becomes reality.
