Danab Commandos force Al Shabaab out of Lower Shabele regions

Mogadisho April 30, 2023 (QJ) – The Somali National Army’s elite Danab commandos and local forces carried out an operation against Al-Shabaab militants in districts of Lower Shabelle region.

The army captured several locations where Al-Shabaab militants had been hiding, including Ceel-Cali-godle district, located in the north of the Ceel Cali Ahmed district of Lower Shabele region.

Al-Shabaab reportedly forced out families from the area to avoid being identified, but later fled the area.

The army commanders also announced that they destroyed several Al-Shabaab bases in the Ceel-Cali-godle district of Lower Shabele region.

Furthermore, the military stated that they would peruse Al-Shabaab militants, who have caused immense destruction and displacement in the Lower Shabele and Galgaduud regions.

Recently, Al-Shabaab attacked and killed many soldiers and destroyed several vehicles in the Budbud district. However, the army has recently intensified its operations against Al-Shabaab and they have been pushed back on the militants.
