Al-Shabaab Responds to Possible Troop Surge in Somalia

Baladweyne (SDN)-According to emerging reports the government of Djibouti is poised to send its troops to Baladweyne in Somalia’s Hiiraan region to bolster the African Unions’ presence in the city. Al-Shabaab was quick to respond to the news threatening to attack any and all forces in the region.

The leader of Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan Sheikh Yusuf Ali Ugaas said they will fight Djibouti’s armed forces in a manner that has yet to be seen in the region. This history making battle according to Sheikh Yusuf is inevitable.

He also maintains that they are prepared for a surge in AU troop capacity in Hiiraan and have forces large enough to engage their opposition. He denied that Al-Shabaab activity is being suppressed in region by the transitional federal government and Ethiopian forces that currently have the upper hand.

No word yet from the Government of Djibouti regarding when and if troops will arrive or a response to Al-Shabaab’s recent statements.
