Ambassador Kay: Somaliland, Somalia to Resume Talks Next Week in Turkey
Hargeisa, Jun 28, 2013 (SDN) – UN secretary general Special Representative for Somalia ambassador Nicholas Kay has confirmed that the next round of Somaliland and Somalia talks will resume next week in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey. As Somalilandinformer news website reported, Ambassador Kay made the announcement through his twitter account saying that he had held high level talks with Turkish ambassador to Somalia and Somaliland and the talks are due to resume next week.
The administrations headed by Hassan of Somalia and Silanyo of Somaliland have not so far commented on the statement made by UN Special Representative for Somalia.
In April this year Turkey has hosted the latest round of facilitation talks between the Somali and Somaliland governments as part of efforts to negotiate Somaliland’s status. Somaliland is seeking international recognition as a separate country, while Somalia envisions a unified country including the territory.
