Five wounded in Villa Somalia Mortars Attack

Mogadishu, June 17, 2013 (SDN) –At least five people were wounded following last night mortar attacks in the capital city of Mogadishu. According to witnesses the mortars were aimed at Villa Somalia, where some of them landed in back gate of the villa and other mortars landed near the residence of Prime Minister Sacid but there were no casualties inside the compound.  The witnesses also confirmed that the injured people were a mother and her children who were residents living near areas of presidential palace. It is still unknown who fired the mortars but it’s believed that some al-Shabaab remnants are hiding themselves in the capital to conduct such attacks. Al-Shabaab has resorted to guerrilla tactics, suicide attacks, night time mortar attacks and hand grenades assaults after abandoning its military bases in the capital in August 2011.
