Al-Shabaab Leader Releases Recording

Afgooye (SDN) The leader of Al Shabaab Sheikh Muqtaar Abdirahman (Abu Zubayr) released an audio recording today which revealed that he is still in Somalia organizing insurgency operations.

He also said that Al Shabaab will continue its campaign against the transitional federal government of Somalia and AMISOM troops. He went on to say that AMISOM faces a fierce battle similar to what the American army faced when it entered Somalia in the early 1990s.

“As long as there is a single soldier representing AMISOM is in this country we will continue our fight” he said. He also urged young people to take up arms against foreign soldiers in the recording.

Al Shabaab has been embroiled in a violent struggle for power in southern and central Somalia, although in recent months many Al-Shabaab strongholds have been reclaimed by transitional federal government and AMISOM forces.
